cases OVERVIEW
$1,800+ annual savings per rider, 4,500 units deployed in 12 months.
In early 2023, we established a partnership with a prominent motorcycle wholesaler in Lagos. With a mature network of wholesale channels and service outlets, our partner targeted the high-demand Okada (motorcycle taxi) segment. Driven by soaring fuel prices, riders sought lower operating costs and higher uptime, prompting the client to introduce a durable electric product line specifically for commercial use.
Phase 1: Entry and Support (Months 0–2):
An initial order of 1,200 high-torque units was placed to validate performance in heavy-load and high-frequency taxi scenarios. We provided a Channel Startup Pack including product manuals and sales strategies, remote technical training for mechanics on controller and battery diagnostics, and a Fast Supply mechanism for essential spare parts to ensure rapid maintenance turnaround.
Market Success and Impact (Months 3–5):
Through a strategy of Showroom + Rider Test Rides across 10 core stores, the first 1,200 units were sold out by the fifth month, with 70% purchased by professional Okada riders. Surveys showed that switching to electric reduced monthly fuel and maintenance expenses by
150–150–180 per rider—totaling over $1,800 in annual savings per vehicle. This direct economic benefit became the core driver for market expansion.
Phase 2: Scaling and Service Upgrading (Months 6–12):
Based on rapid sell-through, cumulative orders reached 4,500 units, expanding the dealer network from 40 to 65 outlets. Our partner transitioned to a Vehicle + Service model, establishing standardized maintenance cycles and a centralized spare parts warehouse. By the end of the first year, the electric product line achieved a 12% higher profit margin than traditional motorcycles, significantly strengthening channel loyalty and market barriers.
